Educational Metaphor
I believe that education is like building a home; you must first take the time to build a strong, structurally sound, foundation before you can begin forming floors, erecting walls, and eventually applying the finishing touches. This applies to education in that the foundation of a home is like the key learning areas (reading, writing, numeracy, and social responsibility) in school. It is important to establish these key areas before they can be built or developed upon. Just like building a home, you wouldn't want to install the roof trusses before erecting the walls that are needed to support them; you wouldn't ask students to read a book if they hadn't yet learned how to sound the words out.
