Learning Intention #2:
Context and 'place' are powerful influences on learning.

I chose a selection of photos as demonstration of having met the above learning intention. I feel that these photos of Nanoose Bay Elementary School’s Amphitheatre and the photos of Moorcroft Regional Park and Nanoose Bay Beach, both of which are nearby, perfectly illustrate the role this school plays in creating the potential for deep learning.
21st century learning has taken learning outside the classroom; what better way than through the library doors into the great outdoors! Here the learning possibilities are endless as students can gather at the Amphitheatre, disperse into groups across the various spaces, or spread out on the grass. This landscape lends itself to be utilized for real diverse lesson planning; from inspired art lessons and hands-on earth science lessons to exciting theatrical lessons and moving literacy workshops, I cannot see any better example of how this school’s Amphitheatre perfectly illustrates the role this school plays in creating the potential for deeper learning. Within a short walking distance, the Nanoose Bay Beach rests at this school's fingertips. This beach lends itself to incredible science discovery where students can learn about ecosystems first hand as opposed to from a textbook. Also while science lessons may be the first thing that comes to mind, it is not all that this beach could be used for. This beach could be used for numerous engaging math and art lessons as well as other cross curricular lessons. Within a short driving distance, the Moorcroft Regional Park also rests at this school's fingertips for some amazing educational opportunities, much the same that I have suggested above. |
