Learning Intention #5:
Instructional plans are based on current curriculum and policy and the strengths, interests and needs of learners. Effective instruction requires us to use a variety of instructional strategies to/ensure learner engagement, build classroom community and facilitate classroom management.
I chose a lesson plan about Chinese New Year from a Holidays Around the World unit as a demonstration of having met the above learning intention. I feel that this particular lesson plan utilizes the new curriculum while meeting the interests of the students. During this unit students had expressed, on more than one occasion, their interest in learning about China and its holidays and my lesson on Chinese New year does just that. This lesson plan also exemplifies my ability to use various instructional strategies to ensure learner engagement and facilitate classroom management, from utilizing various methods for the delivery of information to incorporating various learning styles and from ensuring students have opportunities for movement/brain breaks to planning additional activities for those students who finish early.
In terms of teaching practice, this experience has reinforced the importance of engaging in a career of life-long learning. In developing this lesson plan, I was able to refine the lesson plan template that I created using the existing criteria and take feedback/personal reflections from past lessons to improve this one. |
