TRB Standard #8
Educators contribute to the profession.
Educators support, mentor or encourage other educators and those preparing to enter the profession. Educators contribute their expertise to activities offered by their schools, districts, professional organizations, post-secondary institutions or contribute in other ways.
For TRB Standard #8, I have chosen to include various artifacts to demonstrate my willingness to contribute to the profession. Included as evidence are photos from various clubs that I have created such as building birdhouses with grade 3/4s that would later be hung throughout the friendship forest that was nestled behind the Elementary School and a morning running group as preparation for the community's cross country run. Below is also a permission form that I created as part of coaching the Junior Girls Soccer Team, practices were twice a week at lunch and games were after school, of which I was the co-referee. Lastly, I have included photos from a Humane Education Teacher Resource Kit that I have put together for School District 70 to use. I plan on presenting this kit at upcoming staff meetings and then allow any teachers who would like to incorporate humane education into their teaching practice to sign the kit out. This kit is not only fully equipped with lesson plans, and all supporting materials such as photos, DVDs, stuffed rats, books, but is also cross curricular and in fact focuses on new curricular competencies such as social responsibility.
